Default Brake and fuel line replacement cost

I recently got a really bad leak in one of the brake lines that runs on top of the frame, leaking right below the driver side passenger door. As I've read is typical with these trucks, all three lines (2 brake lines one fuel line?) are corroded beyond recognition and basically fused together. I took it to a local shop and had them check all my brake and fuel lines and theyve told me the brake lines and fuel lines all needs to be replaced and that they make their own lines in shop and that would be included in the price. Also tried to sell me on replacing my fuel sender unit for 230$ CDN just the for the part, they said it was also very corroded and might leak once the other lines are fixed.

I didnt see I had much choice as the lines need to be replaced to keep driving the truck and I do intend to keep driving it for some time so I told them to go ahesd and replace the corroded lines.
That was a few days ago and I called to check in today and theyve told me they already have over 8 hours clocked (at $115/h) on it and that was just taking the old lines out and just getting started on making new ones today.

That seems to me like a lot of time to me and I wonder if anyone with more experience could tell me whether thats a fair amount of time or if im getting screwed.

I think this is the route that I am taking eventually.

A few months ago mine blew out in the same spot. I actually bought some ni-cop line from the local Advance and made my own line.

Just had this done a few weeks ago. had a corroded chunk of line behind my rear driver's side tire. I was able to pick up some poly coated brake lines ( 2 pieces 60 inch line @ 1/4 inch) with the hope of doing it myself. But as all things Canadian happen, the snow came down and I was not looking forward to lying down in the slush.

Brought the Jimmy and lines to a new mechanic in town, and he's only charging $60 an hour compared to everyone else at 80 or more (again, Canadian dollars eh!)

all total, it cost around 400 bucks to get it done, and I still have one full 60 inch length of brake line.

Okay I just got shafted because their shop rate is so high, they only charged me 70$ to make the lines and about 600$ to have them installed, what really got me is my fuel lines all needing to be replaced, that was roughly 750$ to make the lines and install them, fuel sending unit was rotted away as well so waiting on that to come in the mail then shes driving. Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't say you got "shafted". If you can't do it yourself, or you don't want to, then you have no choice but to pay somebody else to do it. It costs a lot of money to operate an auto repair shop, and their labor rate reflects that.
