make sure that the multi function switch is the same for your 96 and that all it's functions work(that don't on your 97) and if it's worth it to you switch the switch! You can take it off the 96(if it crosses) and plug it in under the dash b-4 routing and mounting it to see if that is your issue. Good luck JP[sm=ts.gif]

Just to cover the basics first, you checked that your STOP/HAZ fuse (fuse #1 - 20A) is in good working condition, testing it for continuity, correct? I am not stating this to be funny or to insult you. I know I have looked at all of the fuses in the fuse box before when troubleshooting electrical problems only to have a fuse look good, but test open. Sucks when you spend a butt load of time ripping a ton of stuff apart only to find that you missed something so simple in the beginning.

This could be caused by a faulty Hazard switch, but that would not explain why the third brake light is not working... The only common item is the STOP/HAZ fuse.

*EDIT* - Here are some items that may be useful to you:

You can replace just the hazard switch, but check to see if your vehicle is covered by a recall first.
