Sounds like your either driving too fast, or you need some real tires.

this morning I drove 180 miles to watch the Packers beat the Rams. The interstate was 100% snow covered all the way. There were tons of vehicles in the ditch. I was in 4hi the whole way and didn't have any trouble. I did 55mph the whole way, and passed just about everybody. There were a few that passed me, and a couple of them ended up in the ditch further downt he road.
Tires make a huge difference. I really, really, love my BFG All-Terrains.

Well actually I drive pretty slow on the snow and ice, I just guess there's more ice on certain spots that I can't see under the snow. I slid on a turn going about 10-15 mph, and at a red light going about 5mph.
Can you drive 55mph with 4hi? I'm afraid of going too fast with 4wd. Can't that burn out the engine?

Do you have a lift on your truck? And what size tires are those?
I've been looking at BFG's for a while, but I'm looking at the Krawlers and the ones better for mud.
