Broken Lock Mechanism

Broken Lock Mechanism
My 1999 2Dr 4X4 Blazer was vandilized and broken into on Friday of last week at a mall parking lot here in Calgary. I had nothing of value in the Blazer, none of my documents were stolen. I figure whoever was there either got scared and ran, they were just looking for money, or they just did it for "the fun of it".
Bottom line, they smashed the metal cylinder where I'd normally put my drivers side key in to lock and unlock the vehicle. The body shop told me it could not be repaired and the entire assembly would have to be replaced. The power locks still work so the door will lock and unlock. The handle works to open the door as well. It's just the locking mechanism that is broken I think.
Right now I have a keyless entry on my command start keychain so I can unlock and lock the door as needed, but I was considering selling the Blazer this year and would like to get that fixed. If anybody has any suggestions aside from taking it to the body shop (which quoted me $500) I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

RE: Broken Lock Mechanism
Is it just the lock cylinder that is busted?? If its just the lock cylinder then just that part can be replaced but I would replace all of them to have one key or see if a dealership can just key a new cylinder to your exsisting key.

RE: Broken Lock Mechanism
Yeah, a dealership will be able to rekey the replacement lock for you. That would be my choice for a replacement.
