broken passenger seat recliner
#1
Ok so i noticed the other day that one of the passengers seems to have used a little to much muscle when pulling back on the seat recliner lever. The plastic lever itself did not actually break. The metal arm that it bolts onto snapped. How difficult is this going to be to replace, let alone find a replacement part.

I had the same thing happen to me on my truck. Go on ebay. There are some replacment handles that say they work with the broken shaft, not sure if they work. You can also buy the reclining mechanism on ebay. I will find the link and try to post it.

I bought this, but I dont think I paid that kind of money. May have found it on another site.

It does work pretty good. If you fool with it a lot, it may fall off, but you can just bolt it on again and it will work for a while until it falls off. It doesn't "break".
The fix depends a little on how much of the metal stub is hanging out. The more stub from where the handle broke off, the better it will work.

Does it only have one set screw? If so, that could be the problem. Does the set screw go into the broken slot? You could probably inprove upon it by putting another tapped hole for another set screw 180 degrees from the other one. Put some permanent loctite on it and let it set up.

Yes, it only has one set screw, and on mine it happenes to be right at the location where the spindle hasthe notch, so it doesnt tighten down as well as it could.
The passenger side recliner doesnt get used that much, so I dont worry about it.
You are correct, it could have been done a little better. I moved it so it wasnt on the slot, and it will hold for a long time. If I move the seat once a year, I'd be surprised.
I only drive my blazer in rain, snow, or when my other two cars are down for some reason. (like a blown engine this summer.....[:'(][:@])

this should fix the problem. i would prefer to replace the whole assembly but it looks like way to much work. I think what will work out best is just to drill a small little slot for the set screw to go in. throw some red locktite on the threads. That way is has something good to bite onto and not let it slide around.
And i am going to be the same next year, getting a motorcycle so the blazers going to be a winter and then poor weather vehicle. and bring it out sometimes when i need the room
