Broken PCV line/hose connection

Hey everyone. I've always used this forum for troubleshooting some of my 1997 Bravada issues. I decided to finally join so that I could post a question. So here it is.
The attached pictures shows the right angle PCV hose disconnected from the driver's side valve cover. I have since fixed the problem by eliminating the 90 degree angle using some 3/8" hose.
Prior to fixing this, when I would apply the brakes, the engine's RPMs would sometimes drop to 400 RPMs or lower and it felt like the engine was going to stall.
Now here is my question, would having this detached PCV hose also affect fuel economy?
Thanks everyone.
Tim

Thanks Captain. I was able to use a 3/8" piece of transmission hose from the PCV valve to whatever the component is called that it connects to. The 90 degree fitting that is under the intake assembly isn't even necessary. Not sure why GM chose to use one. Using a 90 degree hose connector must have cost a few cents less than using another inch of hose. :-)
