Ok. I have a 2001 Blazer Pewter in colour. I got into a small accident (not my fault). The bodyshop replaced the bumper valance and repainted it the colour it was. Then, got into another acident (again, not my fault). Just like the first one but not as bad and on the right corner. Took it to a different body shop. Theywill only repaint it not replace it. They call me and tell me there is a crack on the left side (not from this accident, accident was on the right) and want $50 to repair it. The crack was a result from a previous repair. You can tell from the prep work on the inside. I took it to the first body shop and they agreed to replace it. I went to drop off my vehicle and seen the valance painted PEWTER matching the rest of the truck. Pewter is NOT the colour it was before! It was a flat dark grey colour (as it is now). But the bodyshop it telling me it is "paint to match" accourding to their books and the 2nd bodyshop "painted it wrong". B.S. I showed them pictures but the bodyshop keeps saying "paint to match". That's all they ever say. I talked to the first body shop and they said it originally came as a pre-painted peice from GM. They started having issues with the paint peeling off and having to re-do them under warranty so they have discontinued painting them. Unfortunately, they do not have paint codes for these peices. My painter re-created thecolor as best he could which is why itsnotaperfect match. Theprevious body shop will have to try create a match.

Is this true? does anyone know a paint code that is close to original?

Attached is a picture of what it is now. Same colour as what it was before. Different then the Pewter body but the cone head at the bodyshop is trying to tell me different.

Some of the valances did come as body color match but if the body shop refuses to listen to you tell them that they can pay you in cash for the part and you will take it elsewhere to order the part...also if this is an insurance warranty repair then talk to your insurance company's claims department about the fix the bodyshop wants to do. Findout if the insurance company will just let you get the repair done at a shop that will follow your wants...I would think that the bodyshop would just fix it without painting it, I see lots of GM cars with the Grey valances not painted....

You could even put this part on the truck yourself. If you get the grille off you could see how this part is really mounted. There are spring clips and a couple of screws/bolts near the ends, so all you really need to do is get a tool to wedge the area where the springclips are or a large flat/blade screwdriver...it really don't look that hard, the hardest part of working on our trucks is fear of making a mistake...but with this you don't have a lot of area to make a mistake...
