Default A/C Compressor leak

Want to fix this leak in my A/C compressor. Has green reidue all over it. I know I need to have the system drained before doing this, but what I want to know is that if it's better to buy a new compressor OR can I rebuild the one on there now. I understand you can get a o-ring kit for the compressor. Is it worth it and re the o-rings the most likely cause of the leak? Also, do I need to drain the oil out and refill when diassembling it. Thanks.

I would replace it. Corrosion can cause issues. If you have corrosion on your compressor, I would not bother trying to put new seals into it.

You will probably be better off replacing it but just for fun I'd tear it down to see what caused the problem. Could save you some bucks if just the o-ring needs replaced.

I just love to tear stuff down anyways...lol

I went that route before. I practically rebuilt my compressor, cleaned everything real good, replaced everything. Only to have it fail 2 1/2 months later. With the two re-charges, for the first one and the second after buying a new compressor. I would have still been out of the pocket , but not by much, If I replaced everything the first time. I say if it failed, it will fail again. Replace it and you would have peice of mind. Oh, and you may find parts cheaper than your local shop and put them on yourself and just go have it purged and charged. But it's not going to be that much more just to have the shop do it and get the parts, again, piece of mind if anything goes wrong. JMO
