Default A/C Issue

Ok my 95 AC works great when it works ... the issue I'm having is as follows, the Compressor will not always engage, When this happens i have to disconnect the connector to the switch that turns the compressor on and aoff and plug it back in then it works great for 20-30 minutes then stops working again. I'm thinking its probably the switch that the connector goes to that could be bad, anyone else have any ideas?

do you have a pressure reading on the high and low side ? Do you mean the plug on the side of the compressor ? To me truthfullly it sounds like an underfilled system or a short, but to give a better answer I would like to know what the system is running at on the high and low side while the compressor is engaged

Which switch are you disconnecting the low pressure cutout, the high pressure cutout, or the clutch engagement switch?

its the connector that goes to the silver canister that engages the compressor. I actually drove it all day today and it only happened once. But I had a problem with it last year with the same problem but it wouldnt engage for more than a few minutes. But I recharged the system on Friday evacuated and added 3 12oz cans of r-134 to it and its been working alot better since.

Yeah thats the low pressure cutout its actually to tell the compressor to shut off so it doesnt starve itself of oil. If all 36oz went in its a little bit over but only a few onces,it should stay engaged as long as the evaporator isnt freezing over. If you have it on max a/c and high fan it should stay engaged for quite awhile
