A/C Low pressure cut out switch
#1
Hello All-
I am trying to replace the low pressure cut out switch located on the a/c accumulator. I am pretty sure that, that is causing my problem as when i jump the plug the compressor runs.So my question is when i put the new switch on how tight does it need to be as well as should it make the schrader valve open then go tight? Because when i tighten it the valve doesnt seem to stop letting vapor out so i back it off cause idk how tight it should go.
Any help is greatly appreciated
thanks! ryan

It should have an o-ring seal and require only 44 inlb (5 Nm).
The low pressure switch should have no impact on the valves in the A/C system...

I did notice that when i unscrewed the low pressure switch that it kinda made a hiss/woosh kinda sound.then when i put the new switch on it goes on then starts to make the wooshing sound of air coming out is this normal or is the accumulator going bad?

OK. I think i got it figured out.The old lower pressure switch wasnt tightened all the way. one question though could it of rattled/wiggled loose? Had to charge the system though but its blowing ice cold again.
Thanks Swartlkk for the input.

It should not rattle/wiggle at all.

So you think it maybe was unscrewed?
I tightened down the switch untill the hissing sound stopped
is that normal when you put the low pressure switch on?
Or is it just supposed to sit there and not tie into the ac system?

It has to tie into the A/C system to function properly. The connection to the system has a check valve into it. The o-ring should seal into the connection prior to the check valve opening, but I suppose it may be possible for it to leak a little past.
Did you lubricate the o-ring on the low pressure switch with some PAG oil prior to installing it?

It seemed like it has some because the first time i tried to put the switch on it just kept blowing R134a out. So i would stop trying to put it on but after your response i just tightened it down.BTW the charge kit i used and the oil in it i believe,Should i get some PAG oil and put it on there? If so where can you get it from?
