I thought the distributor hold down bolt was metric. But I could be in error. I didn't replace mine. Jasondis you will have to determine if the regular hold down bolt supplied with the clamp will work or not.

Ok I got the new clamp down on the distributor. I was able to use the original bolt. I'm at 2.4 cpk now. I'm sure I could get it to zero or 2 but ran out of time today. The truck still wont go more then 50 miles an hour 80km. When I do try I'm getting a really bad smell. Where do I go from here ? Any suggestions ?

Rotten eggs? While running, have someone at the tail pipe with their hand over then end, see how much air flow you have while reving it in park.

I had this happen to me while on the highway, had to pull over immediately, drove on the shoulder while flooring it, and couldn't get to speed(100km/h speed limit). Finally i had a massive pop, and a big black cloud of smoke, and the truck launched like a rocket!

Story was really just to say that the catalytic converter got clogged, and I created enough pressure to blow through it.

^^^^NO RECOMMENDED TO DO^^^^

but reving it could give you an idea if its clogged

Check for codes... it should throw the cat code if it is... but this whole post could also be unrelated lol...

Les mentioned fuel trims which is as good as any next step and now that you have a scanner you should follow his advice. Also, any codes, have you done the fuel pressure test in the sticky. Here is some info to prepare you:

You will also want to learn how to graph O2 sensors:

https://blazerforum.com/forum/2nd-ge...82/#post733375

Regarding an exhaust restriction, yes that can cause your symptoms along with many other things (ignition, fuel, mechanical). The definitive test is a back pressure gauge in one of the O2 sensor ports. A shadetree mechanic test is run it with an O2 sensor removed.

While your waiting for your marching orders from Les, this read may give you an overall perspective:

Are you still killing ignition coils?

I'm also hearing spark like a bug zapper and I just changed the wires for the second time. I have white marks on the sides of my coil which indicates over heating . I have a new coil I'm gonna install tomorrow and see if it makes any difference. I went and talked to a guy I know at a muffler shop and he said if the cat was screwed I wouldn't be able to do 20mph. I'll replace the coil tomorrow and see how it goes ...if that doesn't work then I'll get someone to rev it up and I'll check to see how much flow there is at the end of the tail pipe. Is there anything I can do with this bafx scantool to maybe pin point the problem ? Is there something I can setup up for real time diagnostics ?

Really unsure on anything with thw scan tool and such. But you got good hands helping.

Let us know tomorrow after the coil swap

You really should do water misting at night to find the source of the arching. You already replaced the wires but are the plugs gapped correctly?

Ya I'll do the coil swap and see how the truck performs. I have no CEL light and no codes at all. I think I was killing coils because the cmp was -17 up until now. Maybe by correcting the cmp I won't be killing coils now ? I did water misting before and seen acring on the wires and that's why I changed them. I live in a condo so I can do water misting anytime of day in the underground. Do you think it's safe to mist the coil...I'll be changing it anyhow ? The plugs are ac delco and they say dont re gap them. They are factory gapped.
