Default cat breaking up?

i just got a 98 4x4 blazer and doing a bunch of work to it.
the list so far:
-resoldered wiper control module
-reconnected rear washer fluid lines
-new rear driver caliper
-new pads on rear
-new rotors on rear
-new driveshaft ujoints
-recharged the a/c
-intake gasket changed
-thermostat changed
-4 new shocks
-new idler arm
its in really good condition for a NY truck. no body rust, and even underneath its in good shape.

i have a few things left,
-ball joints,
-catalytic converter.

the cat is doing something wrong... its rattling, like the whole honeycomb because disloged from the metal frame. has anyone heard of this? no cel or anything, just the annoying rattle at idle in drive. give it a little gas it does away, but have someone in the truck idle in drive and hold the brake and get under the truck, its right in the cat.

I have 2 options for repair
- cut just the cat out and weld in a generic cat.
or buy the cat assembly and bolt the whole thing in. I have found them for under 180 bucks shipped. not sure what direction to go

with what? which cat to use?

generally, the uni-fit cat's tend to not be a simple bolt (weld) in. always something that needs messed with.

a direct fit is usually the best bet. i say "usually" since there is always a chance your application may be the one unusual application.

mind you......i did have one of those uni-fit cat's fit like a glove. once.

my jimmy has about 180,000 miles on it and the cat was completely empty.... i put a bolt in and even that wasn't just bolt in. had to cut all the bolts out and replace them all for the new cat to bolt up - pressed studs just don't last on exhaust parts :/

Get the bolt in tho it'll save you a bunch of hassle in the end.

Heard of it hundreds of times. Get the exact fit-save yourself alot of time and issues. Done deal. Merry Christmas-Jerry PS $180 for (if it is) a brand name-exact fit is a good price.
