I think it's a full liftgate thing...

All the tailgates seem to be roof mounted...

Maybe it was an option for some to be mounted inside, or something?

Otherwise, there's no moving parts to wear out the wires... I'm going to have to start paying attention to some of the 4 doors around me, lol.

Guys,
Mine is a 4 door 2002 model, and in fact the 3rd light is mounted on the frame of the hatch window, not on the roof....so the light assy moves up & down, stressing the wires, every time the hatch is opened/closed.

The difference may be a tailgate which has a window that slides up and down (roof mount), vs a true hatch-back window, which folds upward & down (hatch mounted light)...

Tailgate 2nd gens don't have a sliding window... My window has hinges on the roof, and the tailgate folds down...

I'd love a sliding back window, but then I'd lose the rear window wiper...

I'll admit I don't know my various vintages of Blazers or their configurations,I only know what I have inmy driveway. I looked at it again, light is mounted on the window frame which puts stress on tight wiring with little service loop. I borrowed the wife's digital camera and snapped a few pics....I'll be glad to share them if I can figure out how; I'm still a newbie on this forum, but willing to try!

Oh, I believe you, I've seen a few of them, lol.

It just seems kind of random as to who gets them where

ORIGINAL: phfitz

Bought my 2002 Blazer LS 4x4 4.3 V6 new. The center high-mounted brake light stopped working in 2005,problemfoundin an inspection, paid $150 to have it replaced. Itfailed again in late 2007. Can't find a replacement thru parts stores or JC Whitney, Haynes manual claims it must be replaced by a dealer. Surely there is a better solution than to go back to the dealer for an expensive R&R....any thoughts?

ya mine doesn't work either i wonder where i would take it to get that fixed or looked at
