Check engine light on
The EVAP system is a pain to deal with. While you can run functional tests with a scan tool, usually a smoke machine must be used to determine if there is a fault. The Vent valve will usually fail to close properly. This can be bench tested with a 12V power source. Just check to see if it holds a seal. I cannot remember if it seals when energized or when de-energized.
