Default Clicking Noise

I have a clicking noise at idle speed. It’s not very loud but when you increase RPM rapidly there is a hesitation and the clicking noise gets noticeably louder, if I increase the RPM slowly the noise does not increase. I am getting MIL P0108. I just had the heads reworked. I know that I have to have the Cam Position Sensor checked/set. I did replace the plugs with AC Delco (.060” gap). I am using the existing plug wires (Autolite), existing rotor and distributor cap (it was running fine before the head issue). I checked the fuel pressures at the port, I had 62 PSI at the beginning and after 10 minutes I still had 62 PSI. I checked the vacuum and I had 18 1/2” of vacuum. Do you think that this is valve/lifter noise/spark knockor something worse? I know that I should probably replace the distributor cap & rotor but I was wondering if someone could identify this sound before I throw more $ into this. If this is a timing issue (Cam Position Sensor needing adjusted and new distributor cap & rotor) could it set the P0108?

Could be cross firing in the distributor cap. The arc inside can sound like a clicking noise. Start with a new cap and rotor and only use AC Delco or Delphi ignition parts. After market parts just dont seem to be compatible with these engines.

I can't pinpoint the location exactly but it sounds like it is only on the right side. I tried putting a wood rod against different things (valve cover, manifold, block etc.) but I cannot tell where it is coming from. My fear was a bearing in the motor itself.

Sounds to me like a lifter, I'm even more suspicious seeing as how you just had the heads reworked. Just my 2 cents.

If it is a lifter, should I be concerned? I just had the thing apart down to them, I should have changed them then. It was not making this noise before reworking the heads.

It's possible during head reassembly that something got torqued down wrong. Bad setting, gunk in the threads, whatever. Minor intermittent knocks are generally nothing huge. A loud knock is something to be very concerned about, you could be rounding your cam lobes or bending/breaking push rods.

Sure sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Maybe one of the exhaust manifold ports are not sealing against the head. Did you use gaskets?

One of the exhaust gaskets had slipped out of place, how I don't know but it had. The Captain is physic.

No, not a psychic Originally there are no gaskets used there, and it shouldn't need them unless either the head or the manifold surfaces are not true. But for some odd reason, the gasket companies think there should be, and that's when the leaks start.
