cluster question
i have a 97 4x4 auto with column shift. my stock cluster has not tach and has a manual rollerover type odometer. i was given a cluster out of a 2000 with a tach and digital odometer etc.... will it swap out...... also if it will swap out im hoping it will fix the fuel gauge......
thanks for any advice.

It will not swap without wiring alterations.I am not sure where the memory for the odometer is stored in a digital speedo, most likely in the computer;which is indeed different on a 2000. Twip is correct regarding your gauge:its either the sending unit or a bad ground.

That definitely sounds like a faulty sender with the gauge like that. As for the cluster, it will not carry over. 95-97 clusters are shaped differently than 98-05, so you would need the dash from a 98-05, which isn't a simple swap either, as the wiring from 97 to 98 changed drastically, and then subtly changed over each passing year thereafter. I believe they added a lot more modules to these trucks in 2000 than in the years prior, and I know for sure they changed the PCM in mid-late 2000. If you want to swap out a cluster, you have to use a 95-97 cluster with column shift (or you lose the gear select indicator), but I am almost positive that you can swap a cluster with a tach with no modification.
