Default Clutch fan removal

The manual says to "hold the water pump pulley and remove the nut attaching the fan to the water pump." Just exactly how are you supposed to do this? I cranked on the tensioner and the belt just kept on slipping while I tried to turn the nut. Any suggestions?

Borrow the correct tools from an auto parts store. Many loan them out.

The only tools the auto parts store had was to turn the nut. How do I hold the pulley?

We simply use a big wrench, a BIG wrench and used a rubber hammer, came right off. We just changed the water pump..

if you partially back out 2 of the water pump pulley bolts you should be able to hold with a screwdriver or even the flat bar from a belt tensioner tool

Those methods work great. If you're **** on using the tool, here it is: OEM/2 pcs. fan clutch wrench set (27018) | Fan Clutch Wrench | AutoZone.com_

The nut on the clutch is 36mm. An open end wrench works much better than the POS in the tool kit.

I pulled the belt off and threw a strap wrench on the water pump pulley. Worked good for me.
