CMP Retard at -9.7 degrees
#12
I decided to get a new distributor and went with the Summit one as Skip seems to be out of the business now for our trucks. It's more but I tend to take my truck to places that have have the same population density and cell coverage as the moon. The summit unit has a balanced rotor. aligned bearings and is tested prior to shipment.
Can tell you it's cheaper than a hotel room that my wife with stay in.
Just for giggles tested my son's CMP retard on his 2001 ZR2 and it was 12.7 and was able to get it down to 11.2 so we'll test on the 38 dollar one I found.
Thanks for all your input.
I will let you know how it comes out.

When I got the Skip White all aluminum distributor it was around $50, so I was not even going to try to "fix" the OEM plastic housing distributor. I could lift up on the rotor and wiggle the shaft. No wonder I had a CMP retard of greater than 10°. Hopefully the Summit distributor yields as good results.

Summit send a box labeled for the 6 cylinder distributor and the packing slip had a 6 cylinder part number on it.
The part in the box had an 8 cylinder cap on it. Pretty sure they are interchangeable but they want me to return it. guess is pays to look at what comes in the box sometimes.

It had both and I expected there to be a difference in the number of points on the count for the Cam potion sensor
Have the replacement now to install and test on it to see if there misfires are gone.
Also see if the misfires on cylinder 2 are counted on cylinder on still.

I am using Dash Command with the additional PID package.
I put in the distributor and the CMP is about =0.6 now. The misfires from the wobbling cap have gone away.
The testh were worn so I think that was the source of the CMP value but they weren't razor sharp.
Still only 2 and 4 are showing consistent but very low misfires, It's low enough the unit doesn't store them. I changed the plug on 2 and it was tan and just over 0.060 gap.
Drive it work tomorrow and see if it still runs good. Now to sort out the hot transmission issues if the misfires are the total story on it.
