1995 Blazer 4.3l 4X4. keeps giving code p1345. The distributor has never been removed. I dont think it is possible for the gear to be worn enough to set it off. I haven't checked the retard yet it does have a rough idle at times and does seem to vary at idle speeds, also at times seems to lose some power. my question is what else is a common cause for this code? my thoughts seem to take me in the direction of a faulty coil, cap, or rotor. Because it seems to be worse when its raining, especially the surging and rough idle. any thoughts?

Cap and rotor my guess if its during wet weather, could also be Spark plug wires. Start it at night and look for arcing on the wires. Also when its dry out start it and with a spray bottle spray with water and see if there`s a difference

P1345 sets in memory when camshaft retard is off by ~27 degrees or more. That is the only thing that will cause the DTC to set. The causes, from most common to least common are:
1. The distributor gear is not meshed correctly with the camshaft gear, (off at least one tooth in either direction).
2. Worn distributor drive gear.
3. Worn distributor bushings.
4. Timing chain jumped at least one tooth.

Before you remove the distributor: using a socket and ratchet, manually rotate the crankshaft clockwise so the index marks on the dampener, and the rotor segment, are lined up as follows:
DO NOT rotate the crankshaft while the distributor is removed. The distributor gear only goes on one way, (the small holes are not centered in the distributor shaft). Install the distributor so the rotor segment lines up with, or very close to, the "6" when the distributor is fully seated against the intake manifold.
If you replace the cap & rotor, make sure you install AC Delco parts, and put a dab of silicone dielectric grease on each terminal, inside and out, of the cap.
