Coolant leak
Hi guys,,,I'm not a master mechanic but I have basic know how...Just needin some answers b4 I go further.Im leaking coolant from the top left of my engine. Its right beside my thermostat housing where two bolts are..It leaks when the car isn't started I can pour coolant into radiator and watch it come out of a creavice. Could it be a gasket or something?
Could be the same problem I had if it's the same set up. Could be the two bolts are from the left arm of the water pump? I did the same thing and poured fluid in and watched it come out. Not hard to fix except the fan blade has to be taken off. All my big tools were at work so I had a hell of a time. Watch a u-tube on it if you're going to try. I think my pump was pretty cheap and then the fluid. Recommend flushing it out too.
I could get a picture later this afternoon but its a 2002 LS with of course 4.3...What could cause the bad gasket...?
Well I have found that the oil is milky looking...so that means it is a definite bad head gasket??could it be done by me...i have tools and basic know how...if not what would the shops charge and how long does it take to someone to do
Also if the left side gasket is bad do i replace the other
Milky oil is definitely an indication that you have a gasket leak that is allowing coolant into the engine oil. It does not tell you whether the leak is at the LIM (lower intake manifold) gasket or the head gasket. The LIM gaskets are much more failure prone than head gaskets are. The original LIM gasket set had a plastic frame that would fail rather quickly. Felpro has an updated set that has an aluminum frame that should stand up for a good long while provided things are reinstalled correctly and the gasket surfaces are not too pitted.
