Coolant tsunami

I think you will be better off plugging the ends of the heater hoses. joining them together lets hot water from the intake go straight to the water pump, bypassing the thermostat, and bypassing the radiator. This permits the coolant to build a lot of pressure from the heat and possibly burst through the sealant on the front of the lower intake manifold.
