Default Cranks but won't start :(

My blazer has always started just fine over the past month it has been getting poor gas mileage and idling rough. The gas gauge as always been erratic since I bought it last October with 101000 miles on it as well as the rpms. I parked it for 3 hours on July 3rd and went to leave and it would crank and crank but not start. I left it overnight and had my dad take a look at it the next day he said it started for a second then died and wouldn't start again he thought it was the fuel pump or filter. So I bought the cheaper part 1st (fuel filter), but when my boyfriend went to replace it he said it started and ran fine just bogged down a little when giving it gas, so he drove it home (15 miles). We were going to take it to a friends to replace the fuel filter since they had the proper tools, but when I was reversing out of our parking spot it bogged down and died. I started it again it stayed on for a second and died, so now its sitting in the parking lot. There is fuel in the rail and spark coming from the distributor when key is on any ideas as to what the problem is?

Sounds like your fuel pump is fighting death.
if you can you need to check the pressure at the rail....you could be getting fuel but not enough pressure or consistant flow.

So the filter has not been changed yet? I would get that done first.

Also make sure the tank is not close to empty especially if you are parked heading downhill.

What does "fuel in the rail" mean?

Okay we will check the pressure tomorrow morning...and I was just posting what I was told by my boyfriend and dad I thought it meant that fuel is getting to the engine just not enough of it(I just put gas in before I parked it)...If it is the fuel pump are there any recommended brands for it?Because I have seen people post about just using AC Delco and Delphi.

Use delphi or delco only or you will be replacing it again shortly! To do the test hook up the gauge to the schrader valve on the fuel rail. The key on, engine off should be about 60 to 66 and must no go below 55 in 10 minutes. Post back your numbers.

Whas that your initial reading? If so, and you have changed the filter, then your pump is the problem.
