i have a 99 blazer and just recently i noticed that in dash parking lights will not go off. i need to press the brakes all the way to the floor in order to stop. and to make matters worse, i snapped the cable for the hood release the other day! i filled the brake fluid, and the brakes got a little better (they dont go all the way to the floor now) should i just bring into the shop or can this be fixed by myself? thanks

Just a chance is your light dimmer all the way up as far as the dash lights.

Try pulling up on the park brake pedal and see if the light goes out. The cable may need adjustment.
Did the brake light come on at a time while you were driving?
If you regular brake pedal went down to the floor you may have a leak in the system and the equalizer valve switch has tripped.
See if you can give us more details.
If you do a search you should be able to find a post on how to open the hood when the release cable has broken.

tried pulling up on the ebrake..no dice. im thinking that once the brakes are fixed, the light will just go off...as you said , it must have tripped that switch letting me know that there is a leak and obvioulsly no pressure is being built up, causing my brake pedal to be pressed all the way to the floor. how easy of a fix is this? or should i just go to a mechanic?
