Default Dash Command (Android) OBD2 Bluetooth

I have spent a lot of time on this forum writing about Android apps that will do Cam Sensor Retard such as Dash Command, Car Diagnostic Pro, and Torque Pro with a custom PID added. Dash Command was the only one that had all the GM enhanced PIDs working on 1996 and 1997 Blazers.

I'm sad to say that I Just got a new phone and a fresh download of Dash Command keeps crashing in Android 16 / Samsung A17 while registering my existing account. Just be aware. Post your experiences here with newer versions of Android and Dash command please.

See post #8. Got it to work

DashCommand v4.8.16 has been working fine on my Samsung S23 Ultra on One UI 8 (Android 16). But I use it mainly for regen status on my '16 D-max.

The app itself hasn't been updated since October 5, 2023 though so who knows what incompatibilities could be out there. Could be a processor compatibility issue or something else. I would try contacting the developer & see what they have to say.

Hmm - so it's not the Android version. I think my conclusions were premature. Could be my processor or install like you say. Should I take this post down? Don't want to cause unnecessary confusion.

I wouldn't. Others might stumble upon the same issue with a newer phone and wonder what it might be. Hopefully the developer has some insight if it comes down to being a true hardware incompatibility.

In the meantime, lets see what we can do. I know you have quite a few customizations in the app that you ideally want to retain, but we might need to try some things to see what is causing the app to not be happy at first.

So you downloaded it straight from the Play Store and it just crashes out when you attempted to open it for the first time? You didn't restore anything from the old phone, correct? Have you tried wiping app cache & data?

If so, then I would definitely say it has to be something hardware related and sending a support request to the developer is in order. Given that the app hasn't been updated in a number of years now, I'm not sure what to expect... Hopefully they will be responsive.

It was crashing and locking up when I was trying to add my account for the GM PIDs for 2 vehicles. Yes it was a fresh install from Play Store. I subsequently ended up successfully installing it (including account) on a Samsung tablet running Android 14. Then uninstalled app on phone and reinstalled again on phone. Same thing happened second time when trying to add account. No I did not try clearing cache.

it's not a crisis for me as I have other ways to do same thing, but just bugs me (and my phone too it seems). I'll pursue it further when I get a chance. Thanks for your help.

No problem. I'm kind of curious, but not curious to try to force a problem on my phone...

With how you describe it now having to do with when you sign into your account, it might actually be something with how the newer phone is handling the backend account authentication although I'm not sure why my phone would be any different other than my phone was updated to One UI 8.0 (Android 16) from an earlier version with Dash Command installed and signed into my account under the older version (Android 15) which would have been current at the time of the last update to the app.

Today I got my account to load into Dash Command and my GM enhanced PIDs working. Only difference was I had the OBD2 device hooked to the running vehicle and paired to the phone. Not sure why it would make any difference, but it's all working now.
