Default Lifting Engine with oil pan question.

Hello Forum,

I attached a photo to get your opinion on lifting the engine during a drivers side motor mount replacement. I know there is a lot of posts with guys lifting the engine to gain access to the motor mounts. Do you guys think it would be a problem to lift the engine with the passenger side mount still attached since it does not need to be replaced? Has anyone heard of someone cracking the oil pan?

Thank you,
John

I lifted my engine that way to replace the passenger side mount. I did my best to only lift it enough to get to it to avoid damaging the pan and the other mount.

I found I had to detatch the rear mount too to get enough freedom to move the engine.

Thanks!

I just remembered I might have scans of my service manual describing how to do this. Let me look for them. I can post them if you like.

Thank you for the offer.

I finished installing the mount on the drivers side. The passenger mount is is okay for now. Changing the drivers side mount was not a fun project. If anyone has and specific questions please PM me and would be happy to answer them. There are a number of good threads and YouTube videos to learn from.

The bad news is the passenger side is more of a PITA. The transmission cooler lines are in the way and they are kinda fun to move out of the way.

In order to replace my passenger side mount, I had to go in from the wheel well and also from the front. I also had to buy a set of flex-head ratching box-end wrenches.

The Factory GM manual says NEVER LIFT BY THE OIL PAN. ITS NOT LIFTING JUST THE ENGINE!

Theres a lift point on the front of the intake manifold for that purpose...
