Default Diff Gasket Question

Ok I have a 2001 Blazer Xtreme and need to replace the diff cover gasket. Now I need to know if it is a 7.625 or a 8.625 ring gear. Problem is the tag is not on the axle to tell so how else would I know? Does anyone know what the ring gear sizw is for a 01 xtreme 4.3 liter, rear disc axle etc. Your typical Xtreme. I dont want to order the wrong one ya know??

Thanks,
Jay

How many bolts does the cover have in it? The 10 Bolt rear end is 7.625 and I believe the 12 bolt and/or the 14 bolt rear is the 8.625, but I'm not sure.

Usually the 8.5" ring gears are found in the ZR2 Blazers. Its unlikely you have it, unless someone made a transplant on your Xtreme.

Unfortunately, compnine told me I have a GU6 3.42 rear axle, but not what size the ring gear is.

You can probably bring your cover in to the parts store. Its gonna be some kinda 10 bolt. The 12 bolt was discontinued back in like 79 and the 14 bolt is only found under fullsize truck§

I wanted to be able to get all the parts before I tore it down but now that I look online at my local parts store the gasket is only 4 bucks each for both so I will just get both and do the job and return the one not used after I get it done but thanks to everyone for helping out!

Now I just need to find someone that has access to a carfax so I can run it on this truck. I have uncovered some bodywork and just curious as to what a carfax report would say about my truck. I went to carfax and it is saying 15 reports on this truck so kinda curious......

Does anyone know of a free place to get one? LOL
