Can anyone give me any pointers on how to manually disengauge a steering column lock?

I have a '97 Blazer LT and drove it only yesterday but this morning I went to start it and the key wouldnt turn and the steering column is locked in place.

I have tried the usual agressive jerking of the wheel towards the direction the wheels are turned while trying to turn the key and hold the brake but nothing works.

I am trying to sell this vehicle and messed around with it for 4 hours today.

perhaps make sure it is securely in park..other than that...all i know is the "jerk method"
