Distributor gear
1999 Blazer. I had a worn distributor gear. I replaced the gear with a new AC Delco. I am wondering if I installed the gear 180 degrees out, on the shaft, would this cause a P1345 code to show up. The code does not show up consistantly. Do I need to need to orient the gear so the dimple on the gear is facing front when the rotor is pointing towards the hold down' which would be on the left side?
This is possible and it will run (and be about 1 tooth off), Ive heard stories of some reman distributors coming with the gears installed wrong from parts stores.
Here are the alldata instructions:
- Align the driven gear roll pin, the pre-drilled indent hole, and the arrow cast into the distributor housing.
- The alignment will not be exact.
- If the driven gear is installed incorrectly, the dimple will be approximately 180 degrees opposite the rotor segment when it is installed in the distributor.
Hope that helps.
Yes, l removed the distributor and removed the roll pin then orientated the gear so the dimple was facing forward when the rotor is pointing to the hold down. Installed the distributor to correct timing setting. No code at all.
Installing the gear in the correct orientation is necessary.
Installing the gear in the correct orientation is necessary.
