Distributor gear wear ?
Hey guys, I just put a new AC Delco cap and rotor on my truck. It had a slight miss before the 2nd gear shift. (Duralast... never again....)
The new cap and rotor cured it 100%. I'm actually surprised at how smooth it shifts now
Anyways, in reading up about this, I've read about people talking about the distributor gear wearing. Truck runs great now, I'm just trying to gauge if I need to look into getting the distributor replaced in the near future ?

On top of the Captains OK, i will add, you will usually get a service engine soon light and code P1365 Cam/Crank Correlation fault, basically meaning it thinks the cam and crank are out of time because the Cam sensor is in the distributor and when the gear is worn it causes the cam sensors signal to trail behind the crank signal and sets the code. Best way to avoid needing to replace that gear is to run good oil. Ive been running Mobil 5000 conventional, its always under 4 bucks a quart and ive been running it in my Astro vans 4.3 for about 100,000 of the 200,000 miles on it and havent had any cam gear issues yet. Not saying that this oil is the best or better than any other, just sharing what has worked for me.
