Default Distributor Question

Hello all!

I am in the process of reassembling a 97 5.7 Vortec from a Suburban to swap into my 98 Blazer 4x4. I've been comparing the distributors from the two and they look the same to me, the 4.3 has a 6 marking and an 8 marking. Am I able to use the one from the 4.3 on the 5.7 if I align it at TDC with the number 8?

Thanks!!

That's a great question! I have always been under the impression they are interchangeable, (except for the cap obviously). However, I have never tried it. Key things to compare, other than diameters & length etc, would be the number of windows on the reluctor that pass across the sensor, and the number of teeth on the gear.

Are you familiar with the camshaft retard adjustment? It is adjustable on both the 4.3L & 5.7L Vortec engines. I have no idea how close camshaft retard would be after installing the distributor, so you might want to be proactive and use a SBC distributor hold down bracket so you can adjust it if necessary.
