96 4x4 lots of miles
dome and floor board light will not go off after the usual time delay after the doors are shut. All lights should go out after 2 sec when doors are locked, and then about 30 seconds if doors remain unlocked.
When I sit inside the car and close the doors, after 30 sec I can hear a "module" click under the dash which usually makes the lights go out but instead, the lights remain on.
Here's the clencher.... the light timers/module works during the daylight... but fails to turn off the lights at night (even though I still hear the "click" at night). I'm guessing the problem is temperature dependent ie. colder temps at night are having some thermal expansion effect on some part in the electrical components of the lighting system.
Any clues as to where the failure is at?
Thanks very much... I'm getting tired of disconnecting the neg battery cable every time I finish driving for the day.

I'm not sure what the problem is, so I'd start with removing the door switches one at a time, (perhaps an internal short in a switch)

Check to see if your door switch is broken off.

in my 97 there is a sensor in the front 2 door handles that when the handle is lifted the lights come on.. also there are door pins in the dash... in my 97 the door pins were only used for that buzzer when you leave you keys in the ignition. so my guess is there is a sensor on or near the door latch in the doors..

also in the rear hatch... rty flipping that switch in the roof of the back cargo area... that should eliminate the hatcha and rear glass from the situation..
