Haha I was actually thinking the same thing!

Yes, it's belt related. I'm still thinking it's the tensioner despite the replacement, but the AC needed to be done anyhow. Like I said, my clutch was wobbly. Didn't kill me to do the idler, since it was cheap.

I went through the same thing replacing pulleys and such when I first for my truck and it wasn't till I read somewhere on here to try a gator back that my squeal went away! I had replaced the belt with a brand new one (don't remember the brand) and it still squealed but the gator back fixed it.

Squeeky belt can also be caused by misalignment of the pulleys: crankshaft, alternator, power steering, tensioner, idler, water pump etc etc. Once a belt starts to squeek, the damage is done.

I'm going to get the Gatorback, but I see there's a Gatorback tensioner pulley, do you think it's worth the swap out or just get the belt?

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to shell out right now for a laser pulley alignment tool, though maybe I will get one for my Dad for Christmas that I can steal back when I need. My parents have 4 older cars between the two of them and a new Tahoe. Seems such a waste for me by myself. Hopefully this will be my last used car. My Cavalier was supposed to be my last used after I traded it for my Dodge Laramie, but my ex husband totaled it.

This has stumped me (which isn't hard), my brother (who's ASE certified but less than interested since it's not a Ford) and my Dad (who's gotten too old really to do this). Thanks you guys for putting up with me! Despite the fact that I broke something in the process, I'm pretty proud of myself for getting this far! I believe I swore after all the trouble I went though with my 454 1975 Silverado I would NOT be dealing with an older Chevy but I keep coming back for more!

If you just changed the tensioner I wouldn't bother doing it again. And stick with used cars new ones are a waste of money IMO plus who wants to make huge car payment every month lol!!

Can't I go back to being like all the other girls who point and things and tell someone 'Waaaah it's broke! Fix it!' LOL! Having a project car is different than having your daily driver being a pita!
