I fail to see how you will kill a transmission by driving in OD... It is just another gear. Now if you are really pushing the limits, then the transmission should shift down anyway, it is the gear shifts that will heat the fluid and may cause premature problems. If the transmission is continuously hunting for the proper gear (between 3rd & OD), then you should make the decision for it and just put it into D (3rd).

With that said, if you tow, install an auxilliary transmission oil cooler.
Yup, Ditto. I tow my pop-up with my Blazer in OD. I do shift down when the trans starts to get busy, or if I know that it will be shifting down, like coming up to a hill. Most of my driving when I am on the freeway is mostly flat so when I am cruising at speed the trans just hums away happy as can be. The only times I see blown ODs in autos is when people just put it in OD and leave it when they are towing. This year I added a trans temp gauge, and a trans cooler, so it will be really easy on the 'ol 4L60E. I also added a drain plug in the oil pan and change my fluid about every 6,000 miles. I know that sounds extreme, but it only gets about 4 qts of fluid when I do this out of the 12 plus that are in the trans.

I fail to see how, also...but I know it happened to my dad's new Jeep. Actually, not sure if the transmission blew or the motor. Could just be a Jeep thing, I dunno.
