egr problems
i replaced the egr valve on my truck but i am still getting a check engine light every once in a while and the egr valve is sticking open and run rough even though its brand new egr. I am thinking the last owner rode with a bad egr for a long time and that may have caused the ecu to go bad. I have heard of this happening, has anyone else heard of that? Anyone have any other ideas on what could be the problem? the reason i say they rode with a cel light for a while is because i cleaned out a whole styrofoam cup full of carbon before deciding to just replace it.
There is an updated EGR gasket that has a screen init to help stop the carbon from getting into the valve. I would put this in and try it again. I have never seen an ECU go bad because they did not fix the valve right away. Korey
I too am having these very similar issues with my '95 blaz..ALL NEW: EGR-valve,sparkplugs,rotor&cap,idle control, muffler(was desperate),spark wires, cleaned intake..still runs like fresh manure from the cows buttocks..
Well i did the same with my 95 Contour and it kepted havin the Service light on so i talked to friend and he told me to disconect the neg lead on battery to reset the computer so i did and when i restarted car idled better n NO light! not sure if this will help but give it a try
the light went out but it is still running rough. I checked the code history by jumping the ground and diagnostic ports on the aldl plug. Its running like the egr is stuck open. I unplugged it to see if that would fix it but it didnt . Does anyone have any ideas?
well, i just took it off again and it had a couple small pieces of carbon holding it open. I first checked the code history with a paper clip andjumping the ground and diagnostic ports on the aldl plug.I took out the egr and removed the carbonand its running perfect again. I have done soo much work to this thing since i got it. Here is a list of things i have replaced. Egr valve, Upper intake gasket (cleaned runners real good), Tires, Oil cooler lines, starter, Sway bar end links, battery, alternator, I put sea foam into the vacuum line on the intake, in the oil and in the gas, filled the oil with fully synthetic after i put the new oil lines on. The body has no rust at all but a few small dents which i will fix in the spring, i been doing paint andbody work since i was 15, taught by my grandpa who has been doing it for 60 years. The interior of the vehicle looks like brand new, i dont think anyone ever sat in the rear or passenger seat. Its a 2 door 4x4 with maroon paint. It has all power options. I paid 2500 and the guy didnt tell me about all the problems it had. He told me he would take it to california and back, which was a flat out lie. after taxes and all the work i done to it, I got a real nice blazer for 3grand.
