Default Electrical Gremlins

I am having a weird problem with my 97 Jimmy 4X4. It started acting up last week. Whenever I go to start it up, it sometimes gives me a "click" just like a dead battery. After playing with it a few times, it will start. Also, if I try to open any window with the window switches, my heater fan stops, the abs light turns on but the engine keeps running, for now anyways. I know for a fact that my ignition switch is going out because I hot wired it (bypassed) when I got a tranny code that kept it from shifting properly. Could this relate to the switch. I checked my battery voltage and ground and it's all good. I upgraded the ignition and ground wires to really big ones so I know that's good. Now before you tell me to change the ignition switch, which is on my to do list as soon as weather permits since I am working outside, I wood like to know if the fan, window and abs dash light could be related to something else like a bad ground and where it would be located.

PS I just found a post by Luthor that had the same symptoms and he apparently fixed it by changing the switch. I should have done this before winter but I am tired of pouring $$ into this thing.

It definitely sounds like you need to change the switch, but I would also recommend that you load test your battery. Could have a cracked plate or other defect that isn't allowing it to transfer full amperage to your starting system.

Well, load test done and battery is A1. Guess I will order a new switch. Might get warmer by the time it gets here. BTW, I will order from Rock Auto and I see they have 4 different kinds ranging from $75 to $120 cad. Any difference in the one I get?
