encoder install problems

Default encoder install problems

hoping someone can help....i have 99 blazer and this morning installed an encoder motor on the transfer case ..i did not disconnect the battery.at first nothing changed ..no lights on switch and service 4wd light was on. i disconnected battery in hopes of resetting system..now i have no gears at all and when i put back in park i hear clicking as if the car was still moving and i shoved it in park..pleeeeeeez help i bought this car for pregnat daughter and trying to make reliable..

Your transfer case is in neutral. If you replaced the encoder on a whim and did not read the codes from the TCCM, you likely wasted your time and money. Diagnose the problem. Read the codes. The truck is trying to tell you what is wrong with it.

i forgot to mention a few things. when i bought the blazer the encoder motor was missing from the transfer case. i talked to the previous owner and he said he had it diagnosed as needing an encoder motor bought one and his son never installed new one after he took the old one off...i tried pulling the atc and tbc fuses yesterday and now its back in gear and back to square one..thanx for your responses ..i am so glad i found this site sure are alot of people on here that know their stuff..alot of good reads
