i have an 2001 2dr and it threw an evap code and its not the gas cap is there anything that typically goes wrong or will go out on evap that i should replace first i really dont know where to start please help?

It really depends on the actual code. Was it for a small leak, large leak, or just a general evap system performance code? If the gas cap is not the culprit, the next most likely problem is the vent solenoid. Run a search and you should find plenty of information.
