This sounds really stupid, but is there a special trick to getting the rubber bushings off that hold the exhaust hangers? I have the muffler disconnected and im ready to put the new one on, but I cant get that bushing off. thanks.

 

those are the things on which the muffler attaches to the body(what it hangs on) those were so increadibly hard to get on and off, you just have to play around with them

 

Take a flat head screwdriver and gently put it inside of it and move it around it may be stuck on the hanger itself!!!

 

The hangers are always a pain in the butt to get off. That is why they make special plyers to aid in removing them.

 

thanks for the advice guys, but i was out there playing with it for a good 30 minutes and i am still no closer to getting those devil hangers off. persistence is the key in this one i guess.

 

spray the bejesus out of it with some lithium grease, let it sit for a bit, then try playing it off.

 

Or a little vaseline.

 

they are pretty tough, and i definitely agree with cliro and chevy lover....lithium grease (or something similiar - wd-40?) them up...when i replaced the exhaust on my last car, i ended up cutting them off and getting new ones from napa (only ran me $60 for a set) at least that way you'll have a new set to go with your exhaust...but a little lube and some yanking should get them off....

 

pb blaster is always an idea too

 

take vice grips and put them strategically near the rubber hanger-enough space between to get a 20" pry bar between the vice grips and the hanger plus(as previously mentoned) spray the path of 'hanger exit' with pb or wd or the like. This will work slick. Any kind of pry bar-crow bar will work. Done hundreds. later jp
