Fan Clutch?
Ive looked around and seen to do the spin test to tell if its bad or not. I can spin the fan by pushing it but as soon as I stop pushing it will instantly stop. Secondly the fan runs at cold startup and at all rpms. Is this a bad fan clutch? Oh and also if it is the clutch does that seriously cost ~$80 for that simple looking thing.
It sounds like it is, also check side play by grabbing the fan at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positon and see if you have to much play. If it wiggles its time for a new one. Not sure about the cost check auto parts store.

Yeah, I guess it is.
Direct drives are noisier and less fuel efficient. The factory fan set-up is pretty good. If you want to save a little money and add more work you could change the whole fan assembly for another type, but changing the clutch is pretty easy and simple.
