Default Fan Clutch?

Ive looked around and seen to do the spin test to tell if its bad or not. I can spin the fan by pushing it but as soon as I stop pushing it will instantly stop. Secondly the fan runs at cold startup and at all rpms. Is this a bad fan clutch? Oh and also if it is the clutch does that seriously cost ~$80 for that simple looking thing.

It sounds like it is, also check side play by grabbing the fan at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positon and see if you have to much play. If it wiggles its time for a new one. Not sure about the cost check auto parts store.

Yah its like 120 for a delco, is there anything I can do to free up the clutch like cleaning it or anything or is the only option to screw it off and put a new one on.

Either replacethe factoryfanwith an electric fan, a direct drive fan, or replace the clutch on the factory fan. I recommend replacing the clutch.

Isnt it basically a direct drive fan right now? There is no play at 3 and 9.

Yeah, I guess it is.Direct drives are noisier and less fuel efficient. The factory fan set-up is pretty good. If you want to save a little money and add more work you could change the whole fan assembly for another type, but changing the clutch is pretty easy and simple.

And you'll never find an e-fan setup that pulls as much air as the stock fan

The stocker has been reportedly able to pull in excess of 4000 CFM.
