Default Fan issues

4th of July I was pulling out of the McDonalds parking lot and heard something break under the hood, came to find out the radiator fan decided it no longer needed one of it's blades. when the blade let go it launched itself through the lower radiator shroud, destroying it, and narrowly missed the oil cooler lines before lodging itself between the skidplate and the frame.

I ordered a new fan from rock auto, as well as a new clutch, while it was apart I checked the water pump, but it seemed ok, even though it is the original on the truck at 130k, while I was in there I also put on a new belt and tensioner and hosed out the radiator fins.

Now she's all back together, but I have a vibration, I contacted rock auto and they sent me another fan, it still vibrates, if i take the fan and clutch off and drive, the vibration is gone, has anyone else had an issue with a radiator fan vibration? i suppose it's possible the water pump bent when the fan let go..

maybe the truck just wants an electric fan....

Just a guess, but I think you may be on the right track with thinking the water pump shaft bent when the fan broke. How far did you drive with the fan broken? The unbalanced weight could have bent something. Could you see anything that caused it to break? Was it just old age/stress, or could it have contacted something in the engine bay? If it contacted something, the shock could also have bent something in the water pump.

Do you still have the old clutch?
