Fixed the leak @ the timing cover & oil pan gasket

Default Fixed the leak @ the timing cover & oil pan gasket

On the last build up of my 1999 4x4 I did not use any rtv at the corners where the timing cover meets the oil pan gasket and it leaked. Here is how I remedied the issue.
Rock guard off
Lifted the front and put on jack stands for room to work.
Drained oil
Removed the engine mount bolts
Lifted the motor up at the front with engine hoist until the cooling fan touched the plastic housing. Motor roughly went up an inch.
Removed bolts from remote oil housing at block and removed the bolt to the oil line support.
Removed the three lowest bolts on the transmission case to block.
Removed the rubbers between the block and transmission to access the rear two nuts on the oil pan.
Removed the stud on the clamp that holds the electrical for the starter & the transmission lines.
Loosened and removed the oil pan bolts in reverse order as torque sequence.
With the remote oil housing free and the oil lines able to move slightly I was able to get to all the oil pan bolts with a deepwell 13mm and a swivel 13mm. Some call this a wobble socket.
I was careful to keep slight pressure on the oil pan until all bolts were out.
I wiggled the pan and it came straight down.
Cleaned the areas with brake cleaner, let dry and applied rtv to oil pan gasket where the gasket would mate with the block and the timing cover.
Reassembled taking caution to keep pressure on oil pan while installing bolts. Once I pushed the pan into place it did not separate from the block!
Snug the bolts wiggle the pan then tightened in order to torque specs.
Reverse for assembly on remaining.
I let the RTV cure over nite and in the morning I refilled the oil and ran the motor. NO Leaking. Ran for 30 minutes to make sure.

wooohooo! glad its done. I did a rear engine seal once,and after i was done,it leaked worse then when i started. I scrapped the car lol.

might have to try this. only place mine leaks now is the front of the pan at the timing cover...luckily its not enough to leave evidence on pavement but the motor is eternally coated in oil...its rust protection
