Default free blazer

I run a tow truck and went a call today. Found a 01 Blazer pouring out oil. Asked the guy to move it about 10' so I could get to it (really tight spot for my truck) so he hit the key and moved it...and tons of oil poured out.

So he tells me he started it in the morning and noticed the oil so it hadn't run much. I asked him where we were going to bring it and he told me a local Canadian Tire.

I told him that I once had a blazer and loved it but it was rusty and it finally died...he looked at my straight in the face, handed me the keys and told me "she's yours"....

So I kinda took a step back and told him I had no money and he told me as long as he can take the plates off and I promiss not ot drive it till it's switched over that he would sign the reg and it was mine....

So I thought it was dementia so we went in to get the second person on the reg to sign and she was happy as a pig in **** to give it away.

They live 5 hours away so towing the car was going to be more than it's worth and they didn't want to spend money on it so I loaded it up and went to the shop.

Got to the shop and in 2 minutes found the problem, the oil filter seal was out. I had asked him if he wanted me to check but he told me to haul it.

So I went to the local store between my calls and got a new filter and added oil....jump in...turn the key....NOTHING.

So the alarm goes off....if I leave it alone it turns off in about a minute, hit the key a few times, nothing then the alarm goes off again...

TECH QUESTION: how do I reset this alarm? I do not have the guys number to contact him but I did see the rig move on it's own power.

id disconnect the battery for a good 10 minutes or so. Had this happen to me on another gm vehicle and that took care of it

Went to the shop on the way home and unhooked the battery, looking over the truck and it looks like it's got a new rad, battery and a whole bunch of parts. I haven't seen one in this good a shape in a long time.

Forgot to put this in post:

There is a little light on the left side of the steering wheel...my old blazer didn't have it. I am guessing it's a security feature...this is blinking all the time.

When I turn the key the lights come on but there is nothing. No clicks or engine does not turn over. I put a booster pack on it and that did not change anything.

What year is this Blazer? If the "little light" is just that, sounds like an aftermarket alarm. Best to just remove it and go back to the factory one. Going to require a few minutes under the steering column to remove the added relays and put the factory connections back; pretty easy to see and do.

Once you get to this point, then see what it does.

Good luck.

It's a 2002, I just went and hooked the battery back up and it still does the same thing. Going to take out the alarm and then try it.

Was thinking of trying to jump the starter to see if it would at least start. I watched him start and move it so I know it ran...chances are low that the starter let go in that time frame.

Damn, i wish someone would give me a free car. That's awesome. There might be a Kill Switch somewhere. If he was able to start it. Also is there a any type of FOB on the key ring?

No fob, I was standing right next to him and he handed me the keys from his hands.

I looked at it tonight and the local tint guy told me the switch should be on the main door lock. I pulled the under dash cover and found the alarm boxes. So looking at the wires I found one wire cut going into the door so I'm guessing that is the wire to turn the alarm off.

I am going to pull the dash panel off tomorrow and I'm pulling it all out. If it won't run after since I might not be able to put the wiring back in the right place then I'll pull the harness from my old truck (same motor) and hope it can go in and work.

biggest issue right now...is that I am color blind

I felt bad about "taking" a truck when I was at work so I paid my boss scrap price for it. That is what he would have gotten if it ended up at his shop so I'll be giving him $250 for it. Then I can feel better about it and not feel like I took advantage of my job. I am going to ask him if I can buy anything that comes in with a registration to fix and re-sell. I'll offer him $50 over scrap and remove the cars the day they come in so they are not in his way.

We get cars signed over all the time and it's a shame to scrap them. Last week I hauled an infinity suv that was 2013. It was a tow away and what a waste...we would have gotten about $250 for it.

Blazer got picked up tonight, I'm color blind so automotive electrical is not easy for me...my mechanic is going to pull the alarm and get it going.

I'm going to put a receiver hitch on the front when I get it back for a winch and then mount a roof rack.

Can these things handle lockers in the back? I'm not into welding diffs but getting a locker makes a big difference in wheeling.
