Cool

Hi, I'm new to registering on this site and have used it as a guest for some time now but cannot find the answer to my problem. I have a 2005 2dr ls 4x4 blazer. Recently the front axle went on it, the dealership said it was the whole front axle assembly. I called the wreckers and they want to know what the gear ratio is there were two options 3.something and 3.something. How do I find out this information? Also is this a real big labor to swap up? Right now I'm looking at all my options as to the cheapest and best route. GM quoted me 5800 brand new and 1500 roughly for a used one put in. The option I am looking at is to buy the front end assembly from the wrecker and I got a couple guys who will do it for cash. As a little end not I was only 8000km over my warranty.

OK a buddy found it for me and I'm going to post it for everyone.
The Gear ratio is 3 4 2 and the option code is ZTMURO. if anyone has anymore information on this i'd love to understand what that means.

I'd love to take a look at your front end to determine that you need to replace the "whole front axle assembly". Sounds like the dealership is trying to take advantage of you.

Do a little research on here to understand what makes up the front end. You will also probably find some troubleshooting help so you may be able to determine what part has failed.

Yea I'm a very beginner on vehicle work I do the odd brake job and such but nothing like this. Im taking the truck to a friend of my fiances tomorrow and he is going to have a look, regardless I found the part at the wreckers and I'm grabbing it before it goes. I'm sure ill need some of the parts.

I'm thinking I'm getting taken for a ride too

Check the RPO sticker inside the glove box. It will contain all of the pertinent information about your vehicle including the factory gear ratio. Take a look in the Tech Article (DIY) section for links to RPO decoders.

Here are the most common:
GT4 Rear Axle: 3.73 Ratio
GT5 Rear Axle: 4.10 Ratio
GU4 Rear Axle: 3.08 Ratio
GU6 Rear Axle: 3.42 Ratio

Your RPO code list should have GU6 on it if your truck has 3.42 gears.

As far as your problem goes, we would need more information to help you discern what is truly wrong with your front axle.
