Default front differential leaking

'99' Jimmy(same truck as a '99' blazer) … 80/90 dripping from my front differential. It's leaking where the drivers side cv axle connects to it. I imagine it's a typical "ring" type seal? I'm having a tough time trying to figure out what seal to order. I keep coming up with the "ACDelco 26064028", but I'm thinking that might be the differential seal for where the front drive shaft connects to the differential, which would not be the seal I need ...………. Well, it's been 20 years and 200,000 miles. I recorded it as though it was some major event or something. No problem, I kept my eyes ahead while recording and there twern't no traffic anyway. (that "check engine" ain't no biggie. just a PO420) youtube video here..

I'm about to do my front diff seals and bearings. I just ordered what rock auto claimed to be the "outer" seals. We'll see.

My driver side is the original bolt on cv flange, passenger is the newer style slip in cv shafts from the bravada axle shaft mod.

Yep, I did this repair not too long ago. I also replaced the outer bearing while I was at it.

The part numbers for the parts I used (also a 1999) are the following:

Left differential cover: 12471587 https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...cover-12471587
Left outer output shaft bearing: 26053326 https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts...aring-26053326
Sealant used on plate: Permatex Anaerobic Flange Sealant p/n 51531 (equivalent to the GM sealant)

Be sure to use enough sealant on the cover plate as the rubber on the inside face of the cover plate is not sufficient to seal the differential.

You can purchase the seal separately, press out the original and then press in the new but I went ahead and got the new cover with a new seal already installed from my local GM dealership.

You will need a crows-foot wrench-head to go on a socket wrench to get the cover off. I believe it was 13mm. I found a set of these at the local Autozone.

Here is the link to the quick write-up I did on the repair: https://blazerforum.com/forum/steeri...ng-seal-97814/

Hope it helps.

While you are in there and have to take the front axle out, it is a good time to replace the CV boot covers with new neoprene ones and replace the grease. The inner one was actually not very hard to do. I wish I had done the outer one while I was at it but I was rushed at the time.

Cool, you'all got me headed in the right direction now. It does get a little old crawling up under the Jimmy every few days to top off the gear oil. Thank you

Be sure to report back what you found and how the repair went. When mine started leaking, it made such a mess. Ugh. Nice and clean now!
