Front end clunking

Default Front end clunking

I have a 2001 Ls Blazer.The front end clunks on certain bumps, pot holes in the streets.I did discover that both outer tie rods need to be changed.can this be the culpret?Does anyone else hear a clunk from the front end of their blazer?

I second this, could also be lower ball joints too if it's a clunkity-clunk clunk type sound while going over road imperfections.

In all my vehicles that needed tie rods, clunking wasn't the symptom they showed/made when they were bad though.

Clunk in my express van was the front sway bar was broke.

I had this happen about 3 years ago on mine and it was the sway bar bushings. There is a kit you can order on ebay, idk how good the quality is but its done good for me so far. It includes the sway bar bushings, tie rods, control arms, ball joints, all that good stuff and it was like 300$.

Something worth checking is the hood hinges. It's a common problem on these trucks & the clunking sounds exactly like it could be coming from the suspension somewhere. It happened to mine. Grab the back edge of the hood each side & try to wobble it up & down.
If that's the problem GM dealers sell a couple of conical washers that cures the clunk. Part number - 12383460

I just don`t get this.I had a 81 malibu the sway bar bushings never went bad.But most of the parts on my blazer are mostly original from GM.This is why I never by AC Delco parts.They are over priced plus they are made to fail.

I had a similar issue a few months ago. It turned out to be a loose lower ball joint.

When i had the ball joints replaced on my blazer, the original rivets were drilled out and nuts /bolts used to reinstall them. After a short time i started hearing a clunking. Turned out the rivet holes were larger than the bolts and allowed the ball-joint mount to shift making a clunk. Tightening the locking type nuts helped, but still would get an occasional clunk.
