I have two issues with my 1996 Blazer I am trouble shooting and am wondering if they may be related.

1. Every so often I get a miss fire on the #1 cylinder. I don't really feel it alhtough my wife says she does so it is mild. I know this is what it is because I have pulled the pcodes from the vehicle.

2. I still have about 4.5 gallons of fuel in the tak when I run out of fuel. The gas gauge seems to be reading correctly for what is acutally in the tank.

We just recently purchased this vehicle and it has about 118,000 miles on it. Both issues came with the vehicle from day one. Before we bought Blazer it had a tune up with all the spark plugs and wires replaced. I have yet to check the number one spark plug to see if the cable is loose or the plug is tight. It seems to me if it was that though it would be happening all the time. I was thinking possibly if the fuel pump was failing this could cause both symptons. Does this seem possible.

The other idea was they were unrelated and that the miss fire is being cause by a short leading to the #1 fuel injector and that the fuel tank issue is just the lead hose going into the fuel tank. If it is the leader hose do I still need to pull the tank to get to it? And if I do should I replace the fuel pump anyway becuase it is a chevy and will probably fail within the next 30k miles anyway.

Group advice and ideas will be greatly appreciated.

So I have been given three other things to try and since they are inexpensive and easy I will start with them and let you all know what happens.

1. New Gas Cap (a leaky gas cap could cause pressure problems)
2. A dirty fuel filter (these systems put out about 90psi and can pump fuel through a dirty fuel filter but cause problems doing so)
3.A bad coil.

Hopefully I will be able to get this solved for less than the grand another group member said he spent over a year trying to solve.

 

Change the plugs, and distrubutor cap + rotor as well...


And the fuel pressure is only in the 60psi range...
