2003 Blazer

A few weeks ago I filled up at a station where you can only pull up to the pumps one way, so instead of waiting I attempted to fill up with the pump on the opposite side of the fuel door. I guess the way the nozzle was positioned affected the automatic shutoff, since I ended up overflowing. Lesson learned.

Now, I've filled up twice since (with nozzle positioned correctly) and the pump does automatically shut off, but too late. When I take the pump nozzle out there will be a pool of gas covering the metal flap, and when I screw the cap back on gas pretty much spills all over.

I don't recall this ever happening before now, though my wife told me once that she tried to "top off" (she liked getting the amount to an even number) and ended up spilling gas. Me though I have never tried pumping after the shutoff and never noticed anything amiss until now.

I have a factory service manual on my computer, and in the diagnostic section it states under Poor Fuel Fill Quality-Overfill:

Pressure relief valve in the fill limiter vent valve is stuck open
Pressure relief valve in the fill limiter vent valve is leaking
Fill limiter vent valve stuck open
Fill limiter vent valve is leaking

So I guess my question is did that initial overflow incident cause the issues I'm having now, and also where is this fuel limiter vent valve? I'm guessing in the metal line that the vent hose attaches to? Thanks.
