I have a really bad mileage issue. My plugs + wires, gas filter, air filter have all been replaced and I am still getting poor mileage in my 1999 Jimmy (4dr auto + air) in fact I get about 300 km to the tank I think that is 5 km/liter or 11.26 mpg.

I do have a code P0442 evaporative emmission leak could this be causing all of my issues or is it something else.

Last year I had double this then all of a sudden.

 

Depending on the cause of the code it could create your problem. Have you completely worked through the steps in P0442 Explained?

 

No I didnt check to see what tripped this code as sometimes the code went away and I didnt think that it would cut my mileage that bad. I think I will check it now. My understanding is the canister is under the back near the fuel tank. Considering wear it might be I suppose it could also get damaged from off roading.

How much does a new canister cost, is the purg line normally regular gas line or is it steel and pressure fitted?
