Default Fuel Pressure Check - Hard to Start

I have a starting problem. I have to crank the engine over several times before it will start. Performed a fuel pressure check and when turn key on pressue would show above 69 psi then drop off to 0 psi in about 5 seconds. Performed a pressure check at the outlet of the fuel fillter with the same results.

I'm thinking I have a bad check valve in the fuel pump. Can anyone confirm this so I don't was $280 on a new pump. Also I have read were there are only certain fuel pumps you should buy that will last. Can anyone advise me what make fuel pump I should buy.

If you had the same pressure drop at the pump, then the problem is either a leaking line or a bad pump check valve. I'd vote for a bad check valve as a leaking line would be rather obvious.

goto directAuto.com. its just the pump. not the sending unit. but is easy to swap out. 49.00bucks. works with 96-2002 s10 models. its brand new. comes with limited lifetime. thus far i've got 3 months on mine and no probs. saved me over 300 bucks. cuz i have a 2 door. ITS WORTH IT.

Good luck with that pump... It's so good they do not even want to tell you who manufactures it. A lifetime warranty is nice so long as you do not have a problem dropping the tank repeatedly. And 3 months is hardly enough time to gauge a product's quality.

Get a Delphi or AC Delco pump and be done with it. The original lasted this long.
