Default fuel problem 97 blazer 4.3 4x4

I'm new to this forum, and have found alot of good info. but so far i have'nt found anybody with what sounds like the same problem that i am having. Here's whats happening. If the blazer sits for 20-30 min. it will start up and run for as long as i let it run. If i shut it off, and start it again immediatly it will start and run just as before. But if i shut it off and leave it sit for as little as 2 or 3 min. it will start for about 1 second and die, then wont start again for another 20-30 min. I did replace the fuel filter, witch did help because prior to changing the filter it would run for about 5 min. and die. During the no start period if i put a small amount of gas down the throttle body it will start, but of course die as soon as that gas is burned up. I do hear the fuel pump running when the key is turned on. I know i need to check the fuel pressure, but dont have the tool to do it. I checked at the test port on the fuel line,(after fuel pump cycled and before starting) and fuel did squirt out. I did the same thing 2 min. after motor was running and it seemed as if there was no pressure at all. Basicly i'm wondering if any body else has had this same problem, and was it the fuel pressure regulator, or fuel pump, or? Like i said earlier, I know a full pressure test would help,( alot!) but $ is kinda tight right now. And any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sure sounds like a fuel issue, but without pressure testing, who knows? A fuel pressure gauge can be found for ~$40, then you can follow the diagnostic steps outlined in this thread:

OK thanks for the reply, i guess i'll go buy the tester and start trying to track it down. I was going to bring it in and have it done, but if i can get the tester for $40 i might as well just do it my self becasuse thats how much the shop wants to do it. then at least i'll have it.

My autozone rents fuel pressure gauges if you have one nearby
